WEEK OF SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 2019 -THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD

The Gift of Baptism
From the Editors of Living Faith

...heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him
in bodily form like a dove.
And a voice came from heaven,
“You are my beloved Son;
with you I am well pleased.”

Luke 3:21, 22
Blessed Trinity, the physical manifestation that you undertook when Jesus was baptized was such a powerful moment for us all. For the sake of the faithful, Heaven and earth, the supernatural and the natural, came together in a unique display of your majesty, which we celebrate today.
We thank you for the gift of baptism, which, through your grace, frees us from original sin and brings us into Christ’s Church. Jesus had no need of baptism, but just as he did in the Incarnation, he humbled himself for our sake.

We Pray:
God, the all-powerful Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has given us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and forgiven all our sins. May he also keep us faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ for ever and ever. Amen. (Catholic Renewal of Baptismal Promises)
